The High Consumption Domestic Rate (DAC by its spanish acronym) is applied when the demand for electricity is greater than what the Federal Electricity Commission subsidizes, and this varies depending on the region of the country. For example, the demand allowed in Puebla de los Ángeles will be lower than that allowed in Mérida, since the climatic conditions of the second city are more extreme than those of the center of the country.

To avoid falling into this scheme, we give you some recommendations that can help your power bill to be maintained at a considerable price that wouldn’t represent problems for your pocket:

1. Use saving lights

Although the initial investment may seem expensive, the profitability of this type of equipment is much higher than that of incandescent lamps, because in addition to saving energy, they generate less heat.

2. Do not exaggerate with the use of air conditioning

Reduce air conditioning time. All air conditioners can be programmed to operate for a certain number of minutes or hours. Trying to maintain a temperature between 23ºC and 25ºC is another excellent measure that will save energy.

3.  Regulate the temperature

A frequent mistake is to have your AC too cold, maintaining the temperature between 16ºC and 18ºC. The ideal temperature is between 23ºC and 25ºC.

If the temperature drops below 23ºC it raises consumption by up to 30%.

4. Monitor the consumption of power

Check that the lights and appliances are off when they are not used. Disconnect plugs and above all, do not exceed the energy load of your home.

The so-called "vampire energy" can represent 5 to 10% of the monthly energy consumption. Avoiding unnecessary consumption can help you stay within a reasonable rate or leave the DAC rate.

5. Surround yourself with vegetation

A house that has trees and plants inside and outside is a cooler house, and therefore requires less air conditioning. Turn vegetation into your best ally.

6. Defrost your refrigerator

Did you know that frost can cause a 20% increase in energy demand?

This happens because an insulation is created inside the refrigerator that prevents the cold from reaching the food evenly.

7.  Read and follow the instructions of home appliances

This measure maximizes the durability of our appliances: actions such as not overloading the washing machine or avoid putting hot food into the refrigerator will help you make sure that these appliances consume only the energy needed for their function.
